The Städelschule was established in 1817 by a foundation set up by the Frankfurt citizen Johann Friedrich Städel. Today it ranks among the leading art academies; its highclass teaching staff includes Venice Biennale winners and Turner Prize winners. Its body of students is as international as its professors, 70 percent of which come from abroad.
A low student-teacher ratio in the Art and Architecture departments enables an intense interaction of students and professors.
